Joan Cherry Shepherd

Joan Cherry Shepherd, a resident of Okmulgee, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014 at the age of 62. She was born on February 21, 1952 to Joe and Joan Cherry (Albert) Zuniga in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Joan Zuniga; husband, John Joseph Shepherd; brothers; granddaughter, Aurora Rose Shepherd and two great grandchildren. Survivors include her longtime partner, James Dickerson of Okmulgee; four children, Sherry “Pumpkin” Contreras and husband, Gerardo of Mounds; Mary Solorzano of Okmulgee, Joeann King and husband, Jeff of OKC and John Shepherd of Okmulgee; sixteen grandchildren; great-granddaughter, Michelle Proctor and four other great grandchildren; one great grandchild on the way; Aunt Babe of Okmulgee and numerous other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee. Wake Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Johnny Leybas and Reverend Mitchelle Taylor officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the Jackson Funeral Home and Crematory in Okmulgee.Following the service, dinner will be served at the Okmulgee Indian Community Center. Pallbearers will be Martin, Mario, Marty and Marcos Solorzano, Gerardo Contreras, Jeff King, Tyler King and Joey Anguiano.
