On July 22, 2014, Jimmy Stanhope took a seat at the Elite Poker Table in the sky sitting next to his father Max Stanhope, father-in-law Alfred Koetting, and all the other people who were too great for this world.
Jimmy was a man that went by many names. He was a daddy, he was Papa Jimmy, he was Peepaw, and he was even Mister Jimmy. Jimmy loved his grand babies whole heartedly. He was the grandpa who was at all the games, recitals, and birthday parties. He would've done anything for his family. He is survived by his loving wife Karen Stanhope; son Mike Stanhope, wife Trish; son Brad Stanhope, wife Debbie; daughter Becca Stanhope; daughter Rachel Boyles, husband Nathan. He was the Peepaw to Paige and Walker Stanhope, Papa Jimmy to Alex, Abby, and Aubrey Stanhope, and Mister Jimmy to his adopted grand babies.
Jimmy was born on November 6, 1955, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Max and Mary Stanhope. He is survived by his mother Mary and stepfather Frank Thompson; brothers Steve Stanhope, wife Gabrielle; Randy Stanhope, wife Susie; Ronnie Stanhope, wife Edna; his sister Kim Blevins, husband Robert; and former spouse Vicki Lish.
Jimmy spent his life thriving in the restaurant business. When he wasn't at work, Jimmy was either in his garage woodworking or winning at Texas Hold 'Em. He was a very driven man that put his heart and soul into everything he did. His accomplishments were no small feat.
On February 13, 2013, Jimmy was diagnosed with a malignant sarcoma. He went through multiple rounds of chemo and radiation never letting his spirit weaken, joking about only having cancer and using that to get what he wanted. "Go get me a Popsicle, I have cancer." -Jimmy Stanhope. Even in August when he was diagnosed with a stage IV glioblastoma, all he did was talk about going back to work as he was going to beat this disease. He never stopped fighting up until the time he took his last breath. What a legacy he left behind to those who knew him.
The family would like to extend their unending gratitude to Mazzio's Italian Eatery, St. Simeon's Episcopal Home, Hillcrest Hospital and St. Francis Hospice. Words cannot express the love and admiration the family feel towards these organizations.
Jimmy was a man who would give the shirt off his back to those who needed it. In memory of him, the family asks for donations to be made to Clarehouse and St. Simeon's Episcopal Home.
