Jim Millhorn, 96, passed away peacefully on January 24 in Allen, TX. Born in 1928 in Maud, Oklahoma, to Grace and Howard Millhorn, he was a hardened survivor of both the Great Depression and Dust Bowl - not that he complained. He lived in Lawton until the age of 16, when the family moved to Oklahoma City. He was a lifeguard at the Lawton Municipal Pool, and his skill as a swimmer would serve him well: During the post-WWII occupation of Japan, he served as a lifeguard in the Army while stationed in Tokyo.
Jim proceeded to the University of Oklahoma on the GI Bill and graduated with a business degree in 1952. His first job out of school was as a freelance right-of-way agent. He married Kay Clark in 1952, and, after having three kids, he settled down and hired on with Warren Petroleum in 1957, where he remained throughout his distinguished career. Jim developed many close relationships at Warren, including a passel of avid bird hunting buddies. He was well recognized in pipeline circles and served as Regional President of the American Right of Way Association in 1972-1973.
Jim married Maribelle Sloan Krause in 1980 and acquired three stepchildren. He stayed active and productive throughout his retirement as a Master Gardener, Warren retiree, and devoted member of Christ Church on Harvard. He could light up a room with his sense of humor and exceptional storytelling capabilities.
He is survived by his sister, Sue Millhorn Gabe, and his three children - Jim (and Jan), Tom (and Betsy), and Susan Murray - as well as his three step-children, Mariella Krause (and Tim Bauer), Matthew (and Phyllis) Calderwood, and Todd (and Cathy) Calderwood. Jim was also blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. He will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be held in Tulsa at Christ Church at 2:00 on Friday, January 31, 2025.
