Jim A. Turley

Jim Turley was born in Lubbock, Texas, on March 1, 1940 to Zoe and Cecil Flippin. He died Thursday, April 28, 2016. As a child, he lived in Oklahoma City, but his family soon moved to Tulsa. At Grover Cleveland Jr. High School, he met the love of his life, Paula Null.

In the early 50's rock and roll hit the radio, and Jim loved it. He taught himself to play the drums and started with a band. He played with many local musicians, including J.J. Cale, Leon Russell, and David Gates.

Jim married Paula in 1960 and graduated from Tulsa University. Recruited by Merrill Lynch, they settled in Oklahoma City with their two little girls.

In 1978, with two partners, Jim started his own securities firm, Park Avenue Securities. After leaving the brokerage business, Jim returned to Tulsa and began negotiating oil and gas leases as an independent. He has enjoyed the petroleum land business for the last fifteen years.

Jim was an avid golfer, and loved spending time at Grand Lake. He was easy-going and a lot of fun to be with. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and he loved watching the women his girls became. He is survived by his wife, Paula; his daughters, Sammie and Kelli; their husbands, Kevin Lackner of Tulsa and Joe Schmidt of Dallas; three grandchildren, Mackenzie, 28 of Tulsa, Samuel Paul, 20, and Sydney, 17, both of Dallas; two brothers, Robert C. Flippen and his wife, Candace, of San Diego, and Joe P. Drew and his wife, Robin, of Oklahoma City; a host of nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Scout. He will be missed.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Lynch, the devoted nurses and staff at Saint Francis Hospital and Clarehouse for the wonderful care they gave Jim.

A memorial service will be held Monday, May 9th, 2016 at 2:00 PM, in the Sharp Chapel, at The University of Tulsa.
