Jewel D. Phillips Newport Cox of Meeker, OK passed away Friday, March 11, 2022, at the age of 94.
Jewel was born May 23, 1927, in Okemah, OK to William A. and Annie G. Black Phillips.
Jewel attended school in Okmulgee and as a teenager she worked at the Glennon General Hospital. She later worked at J.J. Newberry and had various waitress jobs.
After WWII, she met and married Wallace Neil Newport Sr., then later married James E. Cox and resided in Sapulpa, OK. She spent a lot of time going to her son Wally's sports events. As a family, they enjoyed going to Grand Lake to fish and play cards and dominoes with family and friends. They later moved to Meeker, OK to be closer to Wally and her grandchildren. She loved going to her grandson's ball games.
Jewel is survived by her son Wallace Neil Newport Jr. and wife Belinda, her granddaughter, Amy Taber, her grandsons, Dustin Newport and wife Kari, Jason Newport and wife Deanna, one foster grandson, John Colley and wife Angel, as well as her 9 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren.
Jewel had 4 brothers Howard Phillips and wife Annalee (both deceased), James Phillips and wife Blanch, Bill Phillips and wife Shirley Mae, John Phillips (deceased) and wife Linda, 3 sisters Ann Shelton and husband Bob (deceased), Emma Jackson and husband Paul (both deceased), Shirley Davidson Haney (deceased) and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Billy Phillips, Gary Jackson, Justin Newport, Rusty Todd, Darin Davidson, Lenny Davidson, and Josh Phillips.
Services to honor and celebrate the life of Jewel will be held 1:00 PM on Tuesday March 22, 2022 at Schaudt's Okmulgee Funeral Service Chapel, 220 S. Alabama Ave, Okmulgee, Oklahoma. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM followed by a graveside service at the Okmulgee Cemetery.
