Janice Rose Weathers (Caldwell), 76, was born on December 13, 1942, in Salem, Oregon and slipped away peacefully on December 10, 2019, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Janice was the youngest daughter of Aileen and Lawrence Caldwell. She spent most of her childhood with her family in Coffeyville, Kansas where she graduated from Field Kindley High School. After graduation, she moved to Wichita to attend beauty school and work as a live-in nanny for a local doctor’s family. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Weathers, in 1963 and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where Jan worked as a hairstylist. Later, she worked for the Target Corporation for 20 years before completing her working life as the office manager for Building Systems of Tulsa until her retirement.
Janice was a steadfast support to her children and grandchildren, a loving friend, sister and neighbor, and a faithful member of Highland Park Christian Church for more than 35 years. She instilled in her children the gift of prayer, a love of kindness, and a sense of justice, and she exemplified grace in every circumstance. She exuded a warm and welcoming presence everywhere she went.
She was an expert seamstress who tirelessly worked on numerous custom prom, party and wedding dresses for her children. She was a talented baker whose pies will be remembered as much for their deliciousness as the hours devoted to their perfection. Janice was an avid reader who never left home without at least two library books and her Bible which she read daily.
A lover of travel and adventure, Janice was always on the move whether visiting her son and his family in Thailand and Taiwan, traveling with her sister to Glacier and Yosemite National Parks, or vacationing with friends in Maine. She happened to find a love for hot air ballooning after an accidental acquaintance with some now beloved friends. When Janice wasn’t on an adventure, she could be found tending to her own backyard and cherished Koi pond.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry Caldwell; and brother-in-law, Paul Good.
Janice is survived by her daughters, Debbra McDaniel and husband, Michael of Joplin, MO, and Tina McCaslin and husband, Jason of Owasso, OK; her son, Jeff Weathers and wife, Heather of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Allyssa McVay, Hailey McCaslin, Lindsey McCaslin, Emily McCaslin, Zach McVay, Chloe Weathers and Ava Weathers; and great-granddaughter Skyy McVay. She is also survived by her former husband, Jack Weathers of Oologah, OK; sister, Anna Good of Coffeyville, KS; brother, Mike Caldwell of Coffeyville, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Janice's name may be made to Highland Park Christian Church ( http://hptulsa.com/give ) or Hillcrest Hospital South where she volunteered would be appreciated.
