Jamie Lorene Capps-Short entered in the arms of her loving Father on December 16, 2022 at the young age of 56. Jamie was born on June 18, 1966, in Wichita, Kansas to Dudley James and Rita Smith Capps.
Jamie lived a beautiful life with many wonderful memories that have been imbedded in the hearts of many. One of those special memories was her baptism at Caney Church of Christ when she was a teenager. Jamie graduated from Caney Valley High School in Kansas in 1984. She went on to receive her Associates Degree and took numerous paralegal courses to become a paralegal. She worked 30 years for Williams & WPX in Tulsa, a job she loved, and made some wonderful friendships along the way. Jamie loved to have lunches and outings with those friends and very much looked forward to her time with each one of them. Jamie felt so incredibly blessed by all of those she worked with each day! In addition to loving her job, Jamie also enjoyed volunteering her free time at the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. She would do any chore to serve her community while there. Jamie also had many mentorships at various Tulsa Public Elementary Schools reading to at risk children and those behind in learning. She also spent many years volunteering her paralegal services to the CASA organization that provided legal counsel for abused or abandoned children. Jamie had a servant's heart that saw no limits to giving love to those less fortunate than her.
One of the best decisions Jamie made was spending 35 wonderful years with the love of her life, Dee Short. Her and Dee sealed their love with marriage on September 1, 2001. Jamie gained more than Dee on that day. She gained the love of a bonus daughter, Brooke Pratt from Independence, Kansas, and Brooke's daughter, Jamie's bonus granddaughter, Jessica Larkin of Overland Park, Kansas.
Jamie and Dee loved spending their days just being together in their home, spending time on their deck or in the pool, and fostering all the fur babies! Jamie never met a stray dog that she didn't pick up and give all the love to. She fostered and adopted many and poured all her love into them along the way. Jamie's fur babies were a HUGE part of what made her so special and filled her heart to the brim. Her most favorite animals were the smaller doggies. Jamie and her best friend, Sheila Haughn of Ponca City, Oklahoma, would call and text each other all the time and shared the love of pets with one another. It was a sweet bond over cats and dogs and a relationship that is forever cherished.
Jamie leaves behind several family members who will miss her greatly. Her husband Dee Short and bonus daughter Brooke Pratt and granddaughter Jessica Larkin. Mom Rita Smith Capps of Caney, KS; sister Krista Wade and her husband Larry of Niotaze, KS; nephews Heath Wade and his wife Kari and their child Jasper; and Trent Riley, son of Shawn and Stephanie Riley (both deceased). Niece Alyssia and her husband Mike Swazey and their children Braxton, Saylor, and McCoy. Aunts Galina Smith of South Carolina and Myrna White of Missouri.
Jamie is preceded in death by her father, Dudley James Capps; maternal grandparents Bill and Helen Smith; paternal grandparents James and Margie Capps; brother Shawn Riley and his wife Stephanie; uncles James Smith and Ted White.
As she wished, cremation has taken place. Graveside services will take place in Caney, Kansas at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 14, 2023 from 2-4pm in the chapel at Camp Loughridge, 4900 W. 71st Street, Tulsa, OK 74131.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Oklahoma Westie Rescue would very much please her. She would also love donations to St. Francis Hospice. She was loved and cared for so well by her hospice workers, Michelle and Linda, and we couldn't find a better way to thank them for their excellent care than a donation.
Jamie is missed deeply but will always remain in our hearts.
