James Olen Shepherd, formerly of Okmulgee, passed from this life on November 28, 2011 in Arlington, TX at the age of 87. He was born April 4, 1924 on Tiger Mountain near Henryetta, Oklahoma to parents Emma and John Shepherd who preceded him in death. After graduating from Henryetta High School he served in the Army Air Corp as an airplane and engine mechanic. "Shep" retired from Southwestern Bell in 1986 after 39 years of service as a lineman, installer, and electronic switchman. He was a faithful member, former Sunday School teacher to youth, and Deacon Emeritus of the First Baptist Church in Okmulgee. He was also preceded in death by Cleo Bernice Shepherd, his beloved wife of 59 years; brothers Monroe Shepherd and Lester Shepherd, and sisters Ruby Kanada and Pearlie West. He is survived by daughter, Vicki Shepherd of Arlington, TX; sister Pauline Martin of Henryetta, OK; brother William David "W.D." Shepherd of Houston, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Those who were privileged to know him will remember his devotion to his wife Cleo, his love of children and family, his natural athletic ability, and his sense of humor. He was a man of integrity and faith and will be deeply missed. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee with Dr. Dennis Taylor officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee.
