James Melvin Murdoch

The Oklahoma Sooners lost their number one fan. Mel Murdoch went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2020.

James Melvin “Mel” Murdoch, Jr. was born to James and Eloise Murdoch in Houston, Texas on October 8, 1951. As a young child, Mel relocated to Oklahoma City where he spent the remainder of his life.
Mel graduated from Western Heights High School where he participated in many sports. He loved football and was a devout fan of the Oklahoma Sooners. He had gifted hands in his masonry work as a brick layer. Mel was very passionate for the outdoors, especially gardening. He loved growing fruits and vegetables and sharing them with family and friends. Mel had a huge heart for people. If Mel wasn’t working on his own garden, he would be out helping other neighbors with their yard work. Mel was loved by many and will deeply missed.

Mel is survived by his mother, Eloise Murdoch; his daughter, Sara Horn and her husband Justin Horn (daughters Grace and Stella); his son, James Murdoch and his wife Joy Murdoch (daughter Gracie); his step-daughters Brittney Fisher, Bobbie Chronister, Destiny Chronister, and Nevaeh Williams; his sister, Cathy Taylor; his brother, Randy Murdoch and his wife Tammie Murdoch; his sister, Janice Murdoch; and his former wife, Karen Murdoch. Mel will also be forever remembered by his numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Mel was preceded in death by his father, James Murdoch Sr. and son, James Lewis Murdoch.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Schaudt’s Okmulgee Funeral Service & Cremation Care Centers, 220 S Alabama Ave, Okmulgee 74447. There will be viewing and visitation at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The memorial service will be livestreamed on the Schaudt’s Facebook page which will begin at 12:55 p.m.
