James Junior Gordon

A service to honor and celebrate the life of James J. Gordon will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, September 9th. The service will be held at the Chapel of Sunnylane Funeral home in Del City, Oklahoma with Chaplain Cathy Haguewood officiating.

James J. Gordon was born in Stephens County, Oklahoma on June 21, 1926 to James and Susie (Morgan) Gordon. He passed peacefully at 93 years of age on September 5, 2019 in Jenks, Oklahoma with his son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Linda, by his side.

James proudly served in the Army Air Corp during WWII as a B17 gunner. Afterwards, he worked as a civilian at Tinker Air Force base in Midwest City, Oklahoma for 35 years. His career started as an aircraft mechanic later becoming an F4 Jet Engine Specialist, retiring in 1984.

James married Rose Mary on July 31st, 1954. They made their home in Del City, Oklahoma where they had two children, Michael and Jan.

James never met a stranger. He was stubborn and opinionated, but also a kind and gentle soul who loved his wife Rose Mary and his family very much. James loved to garden vegetables and flowers. His pride and joy was his lawn having won the Best Yard Award in his neighborhood many times. James also enjoyed country music, The Andy Griffith Show, and Hee-Haw.

James is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Rose Mary. He leaves behind his son, Michael Gordon, and his wife Linda; his daughter, Jan Lane; grandsons, Sergeant Bryn Gordon and wife, Victoria, Dan Lane, Trevor McCann, Austin McCann and wife, Monica, and great-grandson, Declan McCann, as well as his “breakfast and lunch” extended family and friends.
