James "Jim" G.T. Steel

March 11, 1956 — August 28, 2017

James “Jim” G.T. Steel, age 61, passed on peacefully Monday, August 28th, 2017 while undergoing treatment following a sudden and severe illness.

He was Born on March 11th, 1956 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the late Jack Steel & Jackie (Ellis) Steel.

Enterprising and entrepreneurial, Jim lead a principled life both personally and professionally. His passion for people and gift for building relationships naturally lead him to Customer Service, working most recently for Avis in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

A Deacon at Christview Christian Church in Tulsa, Jim was a servant leader and a humble example of God’s power to heal the hurting through love and compassion. From social media, one co-worker said, reflecting on their relationship, “You were family to me, I will miss our arguments, our jokes our laughs, our talks about the Bible, God, the things that are happening in this world… It will not be the same without you... but I know now you are in a better place. We love you.”

His family commented, “Jim did his best to live what he preached. He spoke often of the love Jesus had for people saying that if he could impact one life for the better, then he would have done what he was lead to do.” It would go without saying that he influenced a great many people. The impact of his life on others resonates with each and every person he touched paying forward his kindness in even the smallest way.

Jim’s hobbies focused mainly on spending time with family and friends. He loved playing dice and card games around the kitchen table laughing and enjoying the company of others. Better than average in a kitchen, Jim also loved to cook for those same friends and family. For time to reflect, he loved to garden and care for his two chickens Squat & Slim. Whenever possible, he loved traveling with his wife, Linda. Whether to places like Branson or Pawhuska, aboard a cruise ship to Alaska or the Gulf, or abroad, most recently, to Ireland, he loved adventuring to seeing new and amazing things. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren; whether by taking time to show them the joy of building something with their own hands, or showing his love for each one by making small gestures important like calling and singing “Happy Birthday” to them over the phone before taking each out for their own special day with Papa and Oma.

Jim is survived by his wife, Linda (Williams) Steel; son, Jake Steel and his wife, Krissy Steel; daughter Tava (Steel) Tobey and her wife Amanda Tobey; Step-sons Eric & Greg Bassett; seven grandchildren, Krisalynn, Zachery, Isabella, Trenton, Grant, Allison, & Sophia; Mother, Jackie (Ellis) Steel; Brothers, Jack, Sam, Rob & their spouses; and Sisters Dee & Jane and their Spouses; as well as myriad family, friends and all those whom he loved and loved him like family.
