James David Hubbard, 65 of Tulsa, OK returned to his heavenly home on March 26, 2016 after courageously battling a long illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggles and ultimately gave him peace. He remained certain that his parents and his grandfather James Warner would be awaiting him with open arms.
James was born on January 19, 1951 to Ernest "Bud" and Madeline (Warner) Hubbard in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated in 1970 from Elwood High School in Elwood, Kansas. He joined the Army National Guard after graduation. He served in the Navy from 1972-1975 and had the honor of serving on the USS Saratoga where he became a Vietnam Veteran. He told stories of crossing the equator and what a celebration it was for the entire ship. In 1975 he married his first wife, to this union three children were born. They later divorced.
In May 1977, he joined the Army and moved to Woodbridge, Virginia for his AIT training. In November 1977, he moved to Fort Riley, Kansas where his son James was born. In July 1979, he was deployed to Camp Casey, South Korea where his small family soon joined him. In August 1980, he returned from Korea just a week before his daughter Jaime was born. In 1981 he was honorably discharged and moved his family to Billings, OK to be near his parents. He worked at the State of Oklahoma for 6 months before going to work as an aircraft mechanic for Northrup Worldwide Service at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Ok. In Sept 1984 his son Jeremy was born. In 1991, he would be forced to retire from the career he loved and had done most of his adult life.
On September 23, 1991, he married his best friend, Linda Shirley Darnell in Perry, Ok. With the support of his family he made the decision to go to college to get his degree. In 1993, he welcomed the blessing of another daughter who would be named after the Princess of Troy because of his long studies of Greek literature before her birth. Soon after, he moved his family to Tahlequah, OK to continue his education at Northeastern State University. After obtaining his Bachelor's of Art degree in Business Administration, he moved to Broken Arrow, Ok where he would officially plant his roots. It was here that he would adopt his step-son Andrew, who he loved as his own.
James was kind and always made time for anyone who was in need or just wanted to talk. He was a huge John Wayne fan and had a passion for history, westerns and genealogy. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him, especially his grandsons, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator. He was a member of Broken Arrow Nazarene church, where he enjoyed taking three of his grandsons every week and bestowed upon them the importance of faith and God in their lives.
