Jackie Dean Hinton

September 8, 1936 — May 9, 2021

Jack Hinton passed away on May 9th, 2021 at the age of 84, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, surrounded by his loving family. Jack is survived by his wife Glenda, sons Derek and Brandon, daughters-in-law Becky and Laura, and his grandchildren Hayley, Evan, Justin, Samantha, and Sarah. He joins his beloved sister, Maxine Moore, and granddaughter Nikki Hinton, in God's loving arms.

Jack was born in 1936 on a farm in Mannford, Oklahoma. He was in first grade when he first met the love of his life, Glenda Evans, and they were married in 1959. He attended Oklahoma State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1959, and went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He worked at Southwestern Bell for his entire career, before he took an early retirement in 1991. At the time of his retirement, he was managing 1,450 employees engaged in the engineering, construction, and maintenance of all facilities in Kansas.

Despite being "retired," over the next 10 years Jack served in various positions in State and National Engineering Societies. He was involved in the Kansas Engineering Society and received their Engineer of the Year Award in 1990, and was elected President of the National Society of Professional Engineers in 1996. He loved that community and the many friends he and Glenda made as they traveled all over the country during those years.

During his career and retirement, Jack changed communities 11 times. No matter where he lived, he was always active in civic and religious organizations. In addition to his involvement in the NSPE, he has always been involved in his local church, serving as chairman of multiple committees. He continued to be involved in leadership positions over the last five years in which he and Glenda lived at the Montereau Retirement Community.

But nothing was more important to Jack than his faith, family, and friends. He was beloved by all who met and came to know him, and his warmth, humor, and fierce commitment to his family is his most important legacy.

Jack's life will be honored and celebrated at a service at Asbury United Methodist Church on Friday, May 14th, 2021 at 2:00pm, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church.
