Ivan Martin

Ivan Dale Martin, husband, brother, father, grandpa, and legendary fishing guide died at home, Saturday morning, May 9, 2015, with his family by his side at the age of 65 years.
He was born June 6, 1949 in Greenfield, MO to his parents, Oris “Doc” and Gertie (Potter) Martin. Ivan grew up fishing Grand Lake and graduated Ketchum High School and was the Captain of the basketball team. He attended Central Missouri State and served in the US Army Reserves.
Ivan married the love of his life, Trudy Robertson in 1972. Ivan and Trudy raised their children in Broken Arrow. Being a natural salesman, he became an award winning agent for MFA and Shelter Insurance in the area.
After a number of years in the insurance industry, Ivan decided to change careers and pursue his lifelong passion of fishing. He worked for ZEBCO, Quantum, and Motorguide. Together with his brothers, they built and operated Martin’s Landing Fishing Resort on Monkey Island on Grand Lake.
He was a talented angler, successfully guided numerous trips to Lake Champlain, New York, Texas Lake Falcon and Fork and Lake El Chuchillo, Mexico.
Ivan also created the Grand Lake Fishing Report, with the late Bud Gammell, which could be heard on local radio as well as the internet. He also designed the Salt Flick’r bait and technique for bass fishing.
Ivan was a devout Christian, who devoted his time to ministering through testimony to the Fishers of Men Chapters and chartered the Fishing Ministry for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Not only did he enjoy fishing, he also loved to play golf, baseball and basketball and was an avid OKC Thunder fan.
Ivan’s priority in life was his family and his goals were to see his family not only succeed here on Earth but also to meet him on those beautiful shores.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Ivan leaves many loving memories with his family, his wife, Trudy; daughter, Amy Seagraves and husband, Mike; son, Jonathan Martin; his grandsons, Jacob and Riley Seagraves and Jett and Jagger Martin; his brothers, Bob, LeRoy, Dave and Jay Martin; as well as several other loving family members and many friends both near and far.
Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday May 16, 2015 at Lake Center Baptist Church on Monkey Island. Pastor Kim Hayes will be officiating.
Memorials may be made in Ivan’s name to the Lake Center Baptist Church, 29020 S Hwy 125 Monkey Island, Oklahoma 74331.
