Hugh William Enos, Jr.

June 22, 1938 — January 11, 2025

Hugh William Enos, Jr., peacefully departed this life and was welcomed into his eternal home on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

Born on June 22, 1938, in Perry, Oklahoma, Hugh lived a remarkable life filled with love, faith, and dedication to his family, friends, and community.

A life-long educator, Hugh served as a Physical Education teacher for 32 years with Tulsa Public Schools, touching countless lives with his wisdom, leadership, and encouragement. He was a proud graduate of Northeastern State University, where he earned his master’s degree and made lifelong friends. Hugh was also a gifted athlete and a member of the 1958 NSU championship football team, which went on to claim the title of NAIA Conference Champions at the Holiday Bowl that same year. His love for the game and commitment to teamwork were hallmarks of his character.

Hugh’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted member of Calvery Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for over 40 years, where he set a strong example of Christian guidance for his family.

Having a love for athletics, Hugh enjoyed coaching gymnastics, flag football and playing basketball and softball in the church league. He played on the Tulsa Teachers Bowling team for many decades and spent much of his retirement on the golf course.

He is survived by his dear family, including his former wife of 49 years, Phyllis Enos, and their four children, Sharon Burris, Laura Israel, Linda (Michael) Montalbano and Bryan (Donelle) Enos. Seven grandchildren, Sharry Summers, Cordel Burris, Payton (Callie) Enos, Joshua Israel, Jason Israel, Carter Enos, and Deacon Enos and one great-grandson, Lincoln Enos. He is also survived by his sister-law, Geraldine Conner, and many nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh William Enos, Sr., and Margot Pauline (Gore) Enos, as well as his beloved sisters, Barbara Ann (Don) Simmons and Paula Sue (Gary) Mathis. Their memories were deeply etched in his heart, and he spoke of them often with fondness and gratitude.

A memorial service to celebrate Hugh’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Braden Park Baptist Church. Family, friends, and all who were touched by Hugh’s life are invited to gather in his honor, to share memories, and to find comfort in the love he leaves behind.
