Hubertina Leonarda Searcy

February 2, 1945 — December 13, 2020

Hubertina "Tina" Leonarda Searcy (van Schagen) passed from this earth on December 13, 2020, at the age of 75.

Tina was born February 2, 1945, in Eindhoven, The Netherlands to her parents, Johannes and Barbe (Heijnens) van Schagen. Tina was one of four children and the only girl in her immediate family, however, she grew up in the company of over 40 first cousins! Her mother was from a family of 16 and her father was one of 8! She had so many fond childhood memories.

She adored her husband of 56 years, Robert Searcy. Their love story truly is a fairy tale......it all began through the World Neighbors penpals program, which paired people from different countries to write letters back and forth to each other. The two were paired in 1960 and they corresponded regularly for three years. Robert joined the US Army and was deployed to Germany in 1963. In October of that same year he hopped on a train headed to Eindhoven excited to finally meet Tina in person. It was love at first sight! One year later on November 19, 1964, they were joined in a civil ceremony in Warzburg, Germany. Then, on December 29, 1964 they were married in front of friends and family in the Catholic Church in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

Robert and Tina settled in Moreno Valley, California in 1965 and raised their two sons; Robert J. Searcy and Garrett E. Searcy.

Tina was a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service in California for 30 years. She loved being outdoors in the beautiful weather. She enjoyed her job and was dearly loved by all of her customers.

When she wasn't delivering the mail, she had many hobbies; she enjoyed crocheting, sewing cross stich and working jigsaw puzzles. She loved flowers and plants and spent a lot of time outdoors working in her garden.

Tina is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Jos van Schagen and her son, Garrett E. Searcy.

She leaves behind many loving memories to be cherished by her family; husband Robert Searcy of the home, brothers Jan and Ernest van Schagen, both of The Netherlands, son Robert Searcy of California, and three grandchildren; Elizabeth, Garrett and Tina Kay, all of Myrtle Beach, SC, in addition to many other loving relatives and a host of friends. Tina will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
