Howard Smith

Howard A. Smith, a lifelong resident of Okmulgee, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 at the age of 84. He was born January 7, 1928 to Cebe Franklin and Delia (Johns) Smith in Boynton, Oklahoma. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. On April 23, 1949, he married Ozelma Gayle Sullins and they were married for 61 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Okmulgee and the Carpenters Union until his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cebe Franklin and Delia Smith; wife, Ozelma Gayle Smith in 2011; three brothers, Cleo, Carl and Leo Smith. Survivors include his two sons, Jim Bryant and wife, Julia and Russell Smith and Tammy Grammer, all of Okmulgee; two sisters, Naomi Mayo of Muskogee and Francis Edwards and husband, Dennis of Collinsville; one brother, J.C. Smith and wife, Norma of Boynton; eight grandchildren, Holly Horn, Jody Bryant, Emily Bryant, Justin Smith, Dylan Smith, Tyson Davis, Brittany Weaver and James Weaver; two great grandchildren, Tiffany Teague and Julianna Cook; one great great grandchild, Torry Teague; best friend, James Brannon and wife, Remonna and numerous other close relatives and friends. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Church of Christ in Okmulgee with Armando Gonzalez officiating. Burial will follow the service at the New Sonora Cemetery in Henyretta under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Pallbearers will be Ted Sullins, Ricky Mayo, David Smith, Tyson Davis, Larry Dye and Danny Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jody Bryant, Roger Sullins and Billy Joe Young. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force at the graveside.
