Hope Elizabeth Lau was born in Corona, California April 12, 1953, to Nellie Lou and Herbert Eugene Cathey. Hope grew up near the city of Cushing, Oklahoma where she attended Harmony Public School. While attending Harmony School she was introduced to her passions for art and basketball. Hope grew up living at the Cushing Country Club where her parents managed club operations and restaurant. She has shared many fun memories of her life there, including working at the snack bar, sneaking golf carts out late at night, fishing, and swimming at the pond. She later attended Cushing High School where she made many friends and began working for Coca Cola Company as a sales representative.
Hope met the love of her life Robert "Cotton" Lau in Cushing, Oklahoma, and they were married on October 30, 1972. Hope and Cotton had two children, April and Jeremy. They lived on a small farm outside of Cushing where she loved spending time gardening and riding horses. Hope was a loving and caring wife and mother. Hope, Cotton and family moved from the farm to Glenpool in 1989 with his work, American Airlines. The family enjoyed many fun vacations over the years, including California, Colorado, Hawaii, Acapulco and London. They especially loved their time at the lake. In her later years, Hope loved being a grandmother. She especially enjoyed teaching them how to draw, cook and even made her very first TikTok not long ago. Hope has always loved animals and her grand dogs, Baxter, Lucy, Izzy, Pete, Cane, and Prince, were also her pride and joy.
Hope loved horses, gardening, drawing and painting. She was very independent and loved working in her yard. Hope loved Jesus and was a Christian woman of strong faith. She enjoyed attending Community Baptist Church and volunteering her time with the women's ministry at the church with her sister and friends.
Hope is survived by her children April Frere and her husband, Brian, Jeremy Lau and his wife, Elisha; granddaughters, Riley and Avery; twin brother, Herby Cathey and his wife, Collista; sister, Norma Acree and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lau, and parents, Nellie and Eugene Cathey.
Memorial services will be held 1:00pm, Friday, March 17, 2023 at Schaudt's Glenpool-Bixby Funeral Service, 1329 E. 151st St. Glenpool, OK 74033.
