Herbert Roy Rogers, Jr.

Roy was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, August 7, 2017, following a long illness.

He was 70 years old.  Herbert Roy Rogers, Jr. was born May 15, 1947 in Sumter, South Carolina to Herbert Roy Rogers, Sr. and Louise Simpson Rogers.  He graduated from Edmunds High School in Sumter, South Carolina, in 1965. He attended Emmanuel Bible College in Georgia and Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.  He received his Bachelor's Degree in Music from Louisiana State University.  He earned a Master's Degree in Music from the University of Tulsa.  He travelled extensively as a soloist and good will entertainer while in the U. S. Army, singing for many American and foreign dignitaries. He also, traveled with the Living Sound, an international music ministry at Oral Roberts University.  He was a soloist at the Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association crusades, as well as serving as Music Director at Christian Chapel in Tulsa.

Roy became a member of the Jeffers family when he joined the cast of Discoveryland!'s "OKLAHOMA!" in 1986, serving as Master of Ceremonies and Production Stage Manager for 15 years.  He also portrayed the role of the surly hired hand, Jud Fry. He travelled across the U. S. as a member of Discoveryland!'s international travel show, performing two to three times daily representing the Metropolitan Tulsa Chamber of Commerce and the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department to promote tourism and travel to Oklahoma.  He was also a member of a vocal performance group called "Sons of Oklahoma", opening for Anita Bryant at the Anita Bryant Theatre in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Louise Rogers.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; stepdaughter Melanie Cummisky and husband Butch of Bixby, and their sons, Quinn and Calvin Cummisky; stepdaughter Amber Niemann and husband Andy of Tulsa, and their son, Beckham Niemann; stepson Beau Beckham and wife Lindsay of Oklahoma City, and their daughter, Jasmine Beckham; three brothers, Phil Rogers and wife Janet of Florence, South Carolina; Terry Rogers and wife Linda of Sumter, South Carolina; Eddie Rogers of Sumter, South Carolina; and two sisters, Jennie Jackson and husband Mike of Greensboro, Georgia; Wendi Foster and husband Pete of Greensboro, Georgia; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Roy will always be remembered lovingly for his beautiful baritone voice.

A private family memorial service will be held in Sumter, South Carolina with interment following.
