Harry William Worthan, age 82 passed away Sunday, May 20, 2007 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Harry was born November 21, 1924 to Harry M. and Edith (Beaty) Worthan in Cherokee, Oklahoma. Following his graduation from Cushing High School, in 1942 he joined the United States Marine Corps and served until the end of World War II with the 4th Marine Division in the Pacific including landings on Saipan and Tinian in the Battle for the Marianas Islands and at Iwo Jima. Harry was called back to active duty during the Korean War. He fought in Korea for 13 months while assigned to the 1st Marine Division.
Harry worked in the petroleum industry as an installation engineer. During his career he traveled throughout the United States and Canada as well as many other places around the world with varies companies. Before his retirement in 1984 he worked for Kellogg-Brown & Root in Houston, Texas.
On July 14, 1977 Harry and LaVerna (Hampton) were married in Miami, Oklahoma. Harry enjoyed working in his garden along with fishing and hunting in his spare time.
Harry W. Worthan was preceded in death by his parents: Harry and Edith Worthan; his brother: John Worthan, and his son: Harry Wayne Worthan.
He is survived by his wife: LaVerna (Hampton) Worthan of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; sons: Terry of Jenks, Oklahoma; Steve and his wife, Barbara of Sevierville, Tennessee; Harry Jr. and his wife, Jodi; John and his wife, Tammy; daughter: Pat Tillston and her husband, Delos, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; step-sons: Dean Dugger and his wife, Vivian of Glenpool, Oklahoma; Doug Dugger and his wife, Linda of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma along with eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two step-great grandchildren.
Mr. Worthan's request will be honored with a private service.
