Harry Olen Nichols Harry Olen Nichols, a resident of Henryetta, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the age of 88. He was born April 20, 1922 to Harry Oscar and Zora Mae (Ward) Nichols in Okemah, Oklahoma. Harry attended Banner School (a small community outside of Okemah). He served in the United States Navy as a naval gunner during WWII on the carrier Saratoga. On October 11, 1941, he married Jewell Elaine Kelley. Harry was a farmer, CCCamp for 3 years, worked at various oil sites around Oklahoma, worked at Pittsburgh Plate Glass for 26 ½ years and was a manager of Fashion Crafts for 8 years. He retired at the age of 62. He was a member of the local VFW and he and Jewell were members of the Grace Assembly Church/Tabernacle of Praise Church for over 60 years. His hobbies were hunting, archery and fishing. Harry and Jewell enjoyed their place on Lake Eufaula many times throughout the year and often found peace there away from the hetics of daily life. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jewell Elaine Nichols on July 11, 2007; parents, Harry Oscar and Zora Mae Nichols, his brothers and sisters, Dorothy Bledsoe, Mae Evans, Frank Nichols, Van Nichols and Roy Nichols. Harry and Jewell have three sons, Gerald Nichols and wife, Carolyn of Claremore; Dennis Nichols and wife, Ginger of Bixby and Garry Nichols and wife, Karen of Claremore; seven grandchildren, Thelesia Gilvart and husband, Tim of Grapevine, TX, Lori McCaw and husband, James of Claremore, Shawn Nichols of Jenks, Amy Green and husband, Dough of Alaska, Denny Nichols of Bixby, Jennifer Potts and husband, Brad of Glenpool, Shane Nichols and wife, Julie of Evanston, Illinois; thirteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Nichols and a host of friends and other relatives. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Henryetta with Pastor Mike Burns and Ralph Tamplen officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Salt Creek Cemetery in Wilson under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Henryetta. Pallbearers will be J.D. McCaw, Justin McCaw, Denny Nichols, Brad Potts, Shaun Nichols and Jimmy Vincent. Military Honors will be conducted at the graveside service by the United States Navy. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Henryetta.
