Haroldene Hill

February 3, 1933 — January 29, 2023

Early Sunday, January 29, 2023, Haroldene McAlpin Hill left her earthly life in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for her heavenly home, where she promptly kissed the feet of Jesus.

Haroldene was born to Harold Allen and Wanda June (Edwards) McAlpin on February 3, 1933, at the hospital in Alva, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of four children. The family lived mostly on various farms in northwestern Oklahoma, except for a short time in Dodge City, KS., a few months in Fort Collins, CO., and a summer in Cheyenne, WY. Returning to Oklahoma, Haroldene graduated from Waynoka High School in 1951.

At a revival meeting when she was eight years old, Haroldene accepted God into her life. She had been a mischievous child, but God changed her life. Haroldene served him faithfully by studying His Word daily, teaching children, youth, and adults in Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, as well as praying regularly. Haroldene also sang in church choirs, was involved in mission activities, and almost anything else at church throughout her life.

Following high school, Haroldene earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. While attending college, she met and married Sam E. Hill, and they had their oldest daughter, Cynthia. In 1955, Haroldene and Cynthia joined Sam in Germany while he served there in the army. A boy named Mark was born to the Hills while they were overseas.

Upon returning to the United States, Haroldene moved various places with Sam during his career as a school teacher and administrator. The family continued to grow. Donita was born in Oklahoma, Monica and Alisa in Oregon, and Charisse in the state of Washington.

Haroldene was an amazing mother! Aside of caring for her children (and half of the others in the neighborhood) Haroldene enjoyed singing, baking, and gardening. Her hobbies became her occupations-teaching music and pre-school as well as cooking for a nursing home.

Sam and Haroldene eventually returned to Oklahoma, finally settling in Tulsa. She enjoyed getting to be near relatives at the end of her life.

Haroldene is survived by her children, Cynthia Hill-Meriwether of Tulsa, Mark Hill of Chandler, Donita French of Quilcene, WA., Alisa (Clark) Grogan of St. Maries, ID.; sister, Cheryl (Ben) Horyna of Hutchinson, KS.; eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and June McAlpin; her daughters Monica Hill and Charisse Kiehn; her brother Edward McAlpin, and her sister Alice Mattingly.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Harvard Avenue Baptist Church in Tulsa, immediately followed by a "Graduation to Heaven" Party.
