Hardy Ray South

Hardy "Ray" South age 87 passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at his Glenpool residence. Ray was born December 8, 1922 in Mt. Vernon, Texas to Walter Thomas South and Winnie Savannah (Ryan) South. Ray married Bonnie Edith (Knisley) on February 18, 1946. He served in the United States Army. Ray received his Associates Degree from Southwestern Seminary. He worked as a minister for forty-five years before retiring in 2005. Ray ministered in Arkansas, California, Texas and Arizona. In his spare time Ray enjoyed golfing and he liked to travel in his motor home. Ray was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys. Ray was a member of First Baptist Church in Glenpool. Ray was preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Winnie South. He is survived by his wife: Bonnie Edith South of Glenpool; his children: Glenna Ray Ellis of Glenpool; Charles Keith South of St. Helen, Oregon; his sisters: Lorene Hamilton, Francis Murlene Benson; his brothers: James Leon South, Roy South along with two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14th at Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Glenpool. Reverend Lawrence Matlock will officiate.
Interment was at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
