Glenn Allen Hogue was born on June sixth, 1933 in Lewis Run, Pennsylvania to parents Ralph and Leona (Sweeney) Hogue. The family included siblings Wayne, Carl, Jim, John, Colyn and Sally Hogue.
As a child, growing up on a farm in Bradford, Pennsylvania, Glenn assisted with all the chores required to manage a family farm. Before and after school each day, he spent countless hours tending to crops, livestock and working on farm equipment. It was also during this time that he gained a love of nature, hunting and fishing.
Glenn was a veteran who served proudly in the U.S. Army. His service included a tour of duty in Germany. Glenn was initially married to Maryellen Vanderfort. They had two children: Glenn and Diane.
After settling in Pasadena, California, Glenn was remarried to Katherine Thomas, who brought nine children to their marriage. This family included six boys: Bernard, Dennis, Marvin, Frank, Rodney and Bradford and three girls, Melinda, Durenda and Cindy. Bernard, Frank and Cindy have unfortunately since passed.
While living in Pasadena, apart from the responsibilities of raising a large family, for thirty-two years Glenn worked as a production planner for the Peerless Pump company. Hard as it is to believe by today's standards, during those thirty-two years, he never missed a day of work!
After retirement and raising nine of their own children, Glenn and wife Kathy adopted three of their grandchildren: Michael, Shanna and Martina.
For over fifty years, Glenn was an active member at the church of the Nazarene, where he served on the board of trustees in Pasadena. He also served on the board of DHS assisting foster parents and contributing to the process that established important laws and regulations protecting children.
All who knew Glenn could testify to the fact that he was intelligent, friendly, kind and a wildly devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. In addition to his easy smile and seemingly always pleasant nature, he was a gifted handyman who could figure out how to fix absolutely anything.
Glenn enjoyed visiting with long-time Pasadena neighbors and tending to his lemon and tangerine trees. Glenn was generous with his time and took great pride in the raising of his children and grandchildren and making sure he provided for their needs.
Glenn knew the difference between words and actions. He understood how easy it can be to simply say the right thing and how hard it can be to DO the right thing. At a time when most place their own needs above all else, Glenn was selfless. At the cost of giving of himself and asking for nothing in return, Glenn's life provided an example of how doing the right thing is always the right choice! For these and so many other reasons, he will be truly missed.
Glenn's viewing will be held on July 8th, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Hollywood Hills. Due to Covid restrictions and his wishes, he chose not to have a chapel or graveside service.
On the day of his viewing, Glenn would like his family members to celebrate his life by reestablishing relationships, having a meal together and to reflect together on the importance of making family a priority.
