George H Reid, Jr

George Hockaday Reid, Jr. departed this life for his heavenly home July 5, 2017.

George was born June 19, 1922 in Birmingham, AL. His family relocated to Fort Pierce, FL when he was three years old.

George voluntarily joined the Army during WW II. He spent three years in the Army in England and France as an armorer and in Germany with the occupational forces. Upon discharge he continued his education.

George worked for W.R. Grace & Co. for 38 years in charge of pesticides and environmental chemicals; traveling extensively in the U.S. and Europe then moving to Tulsa in 1975.

Upon retirement, he went to work at Albertson's because he missed being around people. Shortly after employment, he was named the most valuable employee and awarded a trip to Hawaii.

George also fulfilled a longtime desire and joined the Tulsa Zoo as a docent for over 20 years.

He was preceded by his father, George Hockaday Reid, his mother, Anna Fleeta James Reid, brother Jim Reid, and his granddaughters, Heather and Sarah.

George is survived by his wife Charleen Kirksey Reid, five sons; Paul Reid (Angelika) Munich, Germany; Robert Reid (Marian) Tallahassee, FL; Keith Crutcher (Leigh Ann) Gainesville, FL; Kirby Crutcher (Darlene) Lawrenceville, GA; George Reid III, Birmingham, AL; one daughter, Denise Crutcher, Charleston, SC, six grand children, six great grandchildren and his beloved pug Mike.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of George H. Reid, Jr. to the Tulsa Zoo.

Viewing will be Wednesday, July 12, 2017, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with family present, at Schaudt’s Tulsa Funeral Service. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 13, 2017.
