George Ellis Carlton passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 at his home in Tulsa. He was born January 17, 1929 to John and Ruth Carlton. A native Tulsan, he graduated from Webster High School. He was a great wrestler in high school and also involved in the swimming program. George served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was very athletic and coached Pee-Wee baseball for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, and the company of family and friends. George was very handy. He had a green thumb and was known for his ability to grow the best tomatoes. George had a terrific smile. Everybody liked George, especially his dry and hysterical sense of humor.
George married his wife, Helen, on May 27, 1983 in Tulsa. George and Helen attended the First Baptist Church of Jenks and they served lunch together for many years with the Jenks Jolly Citizens . George was always appreciated for putting others first throughout his lifetime. George had a successful career as an inside salesman with U.S. Steel for over 35 years.
George was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Sue Burgin.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Helen Carlton; children, Cinda Burge, Debra Carlton, and Marc (Haydee) Carlton; grandchildren, David Carlton, Adriana (Brian) Tromburg, Jennifer Burge and Joseph Burge; great-grandson William Tromburg; and stepchildren Sam Mason and Stacey (David) Bayles and granddaughter, Kelly Bayles; sisters, Sharon Thompson (Dennis) and Kay Dardenne (Charlie); and brother-in-law LeRoy Burgin.
The family would like to thank Roserock Hospice, their nurses and their aides whom provided exceptional care during his illness. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Christopher W. Teel of Schaudt-Teel Funeral Service. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Friday at Schaudt-Teel Funeral Service. A funeral ceremony celebrating George's life is scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday in the Chapel at Schaudt-Teel. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
