Garry Louis Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on August 26, 2024. He is survived by his devoted wife, Myra Jeanne Smith of Cushing, OK, of whom he married on September 25, 1981; his children, Adam Anello of Broken Arrow, OK and grandchildren Christopher, Ronnie, Mikayla; Tim Anello and his wife Stephanie of Broken Arrow, OK, and grandchildren Hannah, and Jaxon; Josh Smith and his wife Tracey of Sperry, OK, with grandchildren Gabrielle, Ella-Louise, and Hayven-Louise; and his daughter Sarah Herriman and her husband Seth of Collinsville, OK, with grandchildren Hunter and Logan. He is also survived by his brother, Pete Smith.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Edgar Smith and Elizabeth Ann Smith; his brother Mike Smith; his sister Wilma; his granddaughter Miah-Louise Smith; and his best friend Dennis Wilson.
Garry's educational journey was marked by resilience. He began his schooling in Tulsa, where he had to leave to work. He later earned his GED and pursued his studies at Platt College. Professionally, Garry was a talented Drafting Designer, a role that showcased his meticulous skills and dedication.
Garry was a passionate individual with a wide array of interests. His love for martial arts was profound, having obtained a 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, he later owned a dojo for several years and sponsoring underprivileged children to ensure they could experience the sport he cherished. He also enjoyed playing racquetball, restoring an old caboose and Jeep, and engaging in mechanical work. His love for his 7-acre property included gardening and taking pride in maintaining his land.
Faith played a central role in Garry's life. He was deeply committed to his Christian beliefs, studying the Bible and theology extensively in recent years. One of his most cherished accomplishments was baptizing his daughter Sarah, a testament to his strong faith and dedication.
Garry was known for his warmth and generosity. He was a devoted husband to Myra, a loving father and teacher to his children, and a doting grandfather. His teaching extended beyond his family, as he found joy in educating and mentoring others, especially children.
Though he faced life's challenges with courage and strength, Garry was at peace with his journey, comforted by his faith. His legacy of love, teaching, and devotion will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Garry Smith's spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched and the love he shared with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
