Frederick Vernon Ballard, Sr., Tulsa resident, passed away on March 26, 2018 at the age of 80 years.
Fred was born in Minneapolis, MN on November 21, 1937 to his parents, Muriel (Vernon) and Clifford D. Ballard. He graduated from Breck Military School in St. Paul, MN in 1955, having attained the rank of cadet captain. Subsequently, he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in geology and economics from Mcalester College, St. Paul, MN in 1960; and a Master of Arts Degree in Geology from University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND in 1963. He was a firefighter with the East Grand Forks Fire department in Minnesota from 1960 to 1963. His career in oil and gas exploration included employment with Amerada Petroleum Corp. (later Amerada Hess Corp.) from 1963 to 1973, Andover Oil Co. from 1974 to 1976, and as a consulting petroleum geologist from 1976 to 1989. In 1990 he was employed by the City of Tulsa, Public Works Department, and in 1992, became the supervisor of Solid Waste Services group, a position he held until his retirement on December 31, 2002. His professional affiliations include: American Association of Petroleum Geologists 1963-1996, Tulsa Geological Society 1967 – present (president 1977, honorary life member 1987), and Solid Waste Association of North America 1992-2002.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Muriel and Clifford; his loving wife, Bonnie; and son, Bruce Davis Ballard.
Fred leaves many loving memories with his children, Alan, Brian, Karyn, and Rick; as well as 10 beautiful grandchildren that he adored and loved to tease and spoil; as well as many other loving relatives and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM Friday May 4, 2018 at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Irv Cutter officiating. Please contact funeral home for further details.
