Frank D. Canahl

September 12, 1940 — March 11, 2019

Frank D. Canahl, a resident of Bixby since 2017, longtime Tulsan, and proud Oklahoman, passed away on March 11, 2019 at the age of 78. Frank was born on September 12, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri to Julius and Evelyn (Hassemer) Canahl. Frank proudly served our country as a First Lieutenant Army Aviator during the Vietnam War. Frank flew over a thousand hours and was a recipient of the Army Air Medal. Upon returning from Vietnam, Frank was stationed at Ft. Totten, New York. Frank met Rose Silvestri at a military parade on base. They quickly fell in love and were married on May 14, 1972 in New York City. After marriage, they settled in Tulsa where Frank began his career as a civil engineer.

Frank was a graduate of College High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. At OSU, Frank served as president of the Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity. His post-graduate studies were completed at the University of Tulsa. Frank began his professional career at CITGO, eventually joining the Engineering Services Department with the City of Tulsa, retiring after a long and rewarding career.

Frank and Rose were married for 46 years, and raised two children, David and Marisa. He was a devoted husband and father. Frank shared his love of the outdoors with his children. In fact, one of their favorite activities growing up was camping and fishing with their dad. He was an avid photographer and always had his camera at hand. His two favorite subjects were nature and his family. Frank also enjoyed woodworking and was a loyal Oklahoma State Cowboy fan.

He is preceded in death by his parents and leaves many loving memories with his family: wife, Rose Canahl of Bixby; brother, Julius A. Canahl, Jr. of Marietta, Georgia; son, David also of Bixby; daughter, Marisa of Portland, Oregon; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Antoinette Kellaher; three nieces and a nephew; as well as many other loving family members and a host of good friends. Frank especially loved his grand-nephew, Rhett Walker and grand-niece, Rosalie Kellaher.

At the family's request, donations may be made in memory of Lt. Frank Canahl, USAR to the Coffee Bunker, a veterans support group, of 6365 E 41st St, Tulsa, OK 74135 Tulsa, Oklahoma or the Patriot Guard Riders of Oklahoma, www.patriotguard.org/tag/oklahoma/
