Floyd Earnest Stewart, 87, left this earth to be with the Lord at 6:40 a.m., on February 23, 2013, while surrounded by family, at the Oklahoma Heart Institute of Hillcrest Medical Center, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At the time of his death Floyd was a resident of Glenpool, Oklahoma. Floyd graduated from Ponca City High School in 1943 and married Geraldine "Gerry" Dill, on April 23, 1944, in Arkansas City, Kansas. Floyd was employed at Beechcraft, in Wichita, Kansas for three years, during World War II. In 1946 he moved back to Ponca City and started his own interior design business as a professional wallpaper installer and painter. Floyd retired in 1988. Born and raised in Ponca City, Floyd spent the majority of his life in his beloved hometown, except for the three years in Wichita, Kansas and the last year and a half of his life, Floyd and his wife, Gerry, moved to Glenpool to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Floyd was a man of many talents and gifts. He was a song leader for forty years and a dedicated member of the church choir for over 35 years. Floyd was an active church congregant, participating in many activities as a member of Albright United Methodist Church, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. One of his favorite activities was leading Sunday School classes because it helped him learn more about the Bible and the Lord's teachings. Floyd's many hobbies included chair caning, woodwork, needlework, and basket weaving, with a special ability for Nantucket baskets. His preferred hobby was sharing the joy of cooking with wife, Gerry. Floyd loved to spoil his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had a knack at keeping family, friends and perfect strangers in stitches with his stories and infamous one-liners. Floyd's humor, spirit, and gentle heart will be missed by all that knew him, and most of all his devoted partner in life, Gerry. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, David E. and Clara Stewart and his siblings, Laura Davenport, Florence Shaw, Doris Hicks, Glenn Stewart and Ruth Stewart. Survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Gerry; son, Dale Stewart of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter, Janelle and her husband Reverend David Karges of Jenks, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Brett Stewart and wife Rebecca of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Sean Stewart and his wife, Daphne of Carmel, New York; two granddaughters, Arnella Karges of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Krystal Karges of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; and five great-grandchildren, Taber, Megan, Jordan, Kalie and Brandon Stewart.
