In Loving Memory of Florence Evelyn Eslick
Florence Evelyn Eslick, a beloved resident of Mounds, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at the age of 78 years. She was born on November 7, 1945, in Bay City, Texas, to her devoted parents, Harold Eugene and Berniece Mayfield.
As she grew up, Florence and her family embarked on a journey that led them from Texas to Arkansas before finally settling in Oklahoma. Florence attended Jenks High School and later obtained her GED.
In marriage, Florence found joy and companionship with Gene Lewis Eslick, a mechanic at American Airlines. Their union lasted for around 20 years until Gene's passing in 2008.
Florence was a woman of many talents and passions. She worked as a seamstress for Wrangler, where she handcrafted jeans with skill and precision. She also spent time at Kentube, where she managed the tool crib, ensuring that the necessary tools and parts were readily available for various projects.
Among her favorite pastimes were riding horses and cooking. Florence had a knack for creating delicious meals, and her home was always open to anyone in need of a warm meal. Some of the favorites were her biscuits and her fried potato sandwiches. She had a soft spot for animals, often taking in strays and caring for them with love and compassion, particularly dogs and the hummingbirds that visited her feeders.
One of Florence's remarkable talents was her green thumb. She had a natural gift for nurturing plants and flowers, both in her garden and indoors. Her house was adorned with thriving greenery, a testament to her nurturing spirit. Florence also had a beautiful singing voice and a love for country music, which she shared with her loved ones through heartfelt melodies. One of her daughter's favorite memories is listening to her sing to her when she was younger.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene, granddaughter Charlee Megan Owens, brothers Randy Lee Mayfield and Bobby Loyd Mayfield, and sister Vera Elizabeth Smith.
She is survived by her four children: Fred Harold Owens Jr. and his wife Donna, LaVonna Barbee, Elizabeth Long and her husband Bob, and David Owens, along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
A gathering to celebrate Florence's life will be scheduled soon. Please check back for details.
Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt's Glenpool-Bixby Funeral Service. Family and friends are invited to leave kind words of comfort, share special memories, and offer condolences to the family online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com.
Florence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty she so lovingly cultivated in life.
