Eugene Thomas, Sr., a resident of Okmulgee, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the age of 85. He was born December 15, 1927 to Chenosky and Sissie (Mitchell) Thomas in Okemah, Oklahoma. Eugene was baptized on May 3, 1940 at the High Spring Indian Baptist Church. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War and served in the 45th Infantry Division and he received a Bronze Star and a Good Conduct Medal. On April 13, 1954, he married Mattie (Lasley) Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chenosky and Sissie Mitchell; wife, Mattie (Lasley) Thomas in September 2006; daughter, Elizabeth Thomas and son, John Al Thomas. Survivors include his son, Eugene “Bon” Thomas, Jr. of Okmulgee; daugther, Cindy Thomas-Roberson and husband, Donald; son, Gilbert Thomas of Oklee, MN; twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Wake services will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 29th at the Nuyaka Indian Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 30th at the Nuyaka Indian Baptist Church with Mitchell Taylor officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Nuyaka Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Military Honors will be conducted by the Creek Nation Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Norman Heneha, Ernest Heneha, J.D. Harley, Robert Solomon, Billy McDowell and Billy Ray Harley. Honorary Pallbearers will be William Gouge, Dustin Cloud and Sam “Bonney” Deere.
