Estol Stephen Shurden

Estol Stephen "Steve" Shurden, a longtime Henryetta businessman & resident was born September 17, 1943 in Henryetta, Oklahoma, to Clara Mae (Woolverton) and Estol Forrest Shurden. He passed away August 23, 2008 in Bad Aibling, Germany at the age of 64 years 11 months and 6 days. He married Norma (Coppedge) Shurden in Edmond, Oklahoma on July 28, 2004. Steve worked as funeral director and embalmer for his father Estol Shurden until Estol's retirement on April 15, 1977 at which time he became sole-owner and licensee in charge of Shurden Funeral Home. Steve served on the Oklahoma Funeral Board and served two terms as President of the Oklahoma Funeral Directors Association, was a member of the Henryetta Rotary Club, a member of the Henryetta Golf & Country Club, Tulledega Masonic Lodge, & the Okmulgee Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Jimmy Shurden. Steve worked extensively with the Red Cross and was instrumental in forming the Oklahoma Blood Bank. Steve is survived by his wife, Norma Shurden, of the home; 1 son, Stephen Mark Shurden & wife Teresa, Tulsa, Oklahoma; 1 daughter, Cathy Sue Marchino & husband Jeff, McKinney, Texas; 6 grandchildren 1 great grandson 2 brothers, Frank Shurden & wife Kathryn, Henryetta; Neal Shurden & wife Linda, Hudson, Wisconsin; 1 sister, Ruth Ann Smith, Henryetta; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives Pallbearers will be David Robertson, Dave Demuth, Micah Mount, Michael Mount, Bennie Fullerton, John Dolce, & Scott Peterson. Honorary Pallbearers, Bob Mace, Gary Gray, Jerry McAfee, Dewayne Woodliff, Jimmy D. Thompson, and his nieces & Nephews. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2008 at First Baptist Church, 507 W. 6th St., Dewar, Oklahoma, officiated by Rev. Jack Vance, pastor of Dewar First Baptist Church and Rev. Matthew Martin, pastor of Dewar United Pentecostal Church. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home.
