Ernest Harry (Ernie) Cornelius, III age 66 passed away Monday, March 29, 2010 at his residence in Glenpool, Oklahoma surrounded by his loving family members.
Ernie was born December 13, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Ernest Harry Cornelius II and Phyllis (James) Cornelius. He married Judith (Judy) Eileen on June 19, 1973 in Tulsa. Ernie worked for Phillips 66 as a store manager for twenty-seven years. Ernie was active in the Glenpool Community. He served as chairman on the Glenpool Park Board. Ernie also was very active in the Magic Empire of Girl Scouts. He started his 20+ year legacy simply making sure girls (especially his) were safe and secure on a camping trip. Most of those years were served as Security and as the official "alarm clock" (a baseball bat banging on the cabin door)! From general security, he eagerly filled the shoes of Chief Security, grocery shopper, supply hauler, Show Star, bonfire builder, bottle washer and finally, "Head Kitchen Master Extraordinaire" for the 6th grade trip to Robbers Cave. Preparing a Thanksgiving feast for a mealtime audience of 100 (usually 80 girls and 20 adults) is nothing short of miraculous, especially considering how masterfully he cared for his campers' food allergies and other needs. No one ever went away hungry under his watch. Ernie's presence continued to inspire other volunteers as well. One such volunteer shares, "He is one of the main reasons I continued to participate ... him and his kitchen co-horts!" Counting the lives he touched over the years, his wonderfully contagious spirit has affected more than a thousand Magic Empire Council girls and over five hundred of our volunteers. In his spare time Ernie loved being outdoors and was an avid fisherman.
Ernie was preceded in death by his mother: Phyllis Cornelius.
He is survived by his loving wife: Judy of Glenpool; his daughter: Debbie Bowers of Glenpool; his father: Ernest Cornelius II of Glenpool; his brother: Russ Cornelius and his wife, Veola; his sister: Shirley Fletcher and her husband, Don, his precious dog, Harley along with other family members, friends and acquaintance.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2010 at Glenpool First Baptist Church, Main and Broadway, Glenpool, Oklahoma. Reverend Brett Land will officiate.
Arrangements were entrusted to Daniel C. Schaudt of Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Service & Cremation Care. Family and friends may view the obituary and send condolences to the family online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com
