Edwin Joseph Cunningham

Edwin Joseph Cunningham Jr. of Oklahoma City, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away at age 77 on the early morning of January 7, 2022, at the Ascension St. John Hospital in Tulsa.

He was born in Ottawa, Illinois, on January 26, 1944, the son of Ruth (born Schwabe) and Edwin J. Cunningham Sr. He grew up in Arcola and graduated from Arcola Highschool. Edwin attended and graduated from the College of Santa Fe, NM, with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration and Accounting. He was married to Marie Bernadette Cunningham (born Cunningham in Santa Fe, NM) on July 6, 1968 in Los Alamos, NM.

Edwin is survived by his wife of over 53 years Bernadette Cunningham, his four sons and two daughters-in-law: Daniel Cunningham, David Cunningham and his wife Jennifer, Christopher Cunningham and his wife Rodica, Jeffrey Cunningham; and by his grandchildren Maria, Diana, Kathryn, Patrick and Michael Cunningham.
He is also survived by his sister Phyllis Kemnetz of Champagne, Illinois, and several cousins, nephews and nieces.

Edwin started working for his fathers' company Cunningham Engineering Co. in Arcola, Illinois when he was 13 years old. After graduating from college he lived in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he worked for USF&G. Upon moving to Oklahoma City he worked as Surety Manager of CNA Surety Corporation for 30 years. After retiring from CNA he worked for Marsh McLennan, North American Group, and International Insurance Brokers.

He was a member of St. Eugene Catholic Church in Oklahoma City since 1972, where he served as Communion Minister for many years, and also a parishioner of Epiphany of Our Lord since the mid 1990s.

Edwin will be greatly missed by his family and friends and all who knew him. His life was about service, to his family, service to his sons and his wife, to his friends and his customers, and his service to strangers. He believed that his service to all of us was service to God. He saw Christ in everyone he met, young or old.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Eugene Catholic Church on Monday, January 17th, 2022 at 11:00 am, located on 2400 West Hefner Rd., Oklahoma City, OK 73120.
