Edward Lydens, Jr. passed away on January 22nd, 2022 at the age of 52. He was surrounded by his family as he left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Ed was a loving and devoted husband and father.
Ed was born on October 27th, 1969 in Lawton, Oklahoma to his parents Edward Sr. and Rita Lydens. He grew up in Lawton and Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Will Rogers High School. He worked for the City of Tulsa for 22 years.
Ed and Kristin were married in 2003 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They were happily married just 3 days shy of 19 years. Ed and Kristin are blessed with two daughters, Kamryn and Karsyn.
Ed will be remembered for the way he selflessly loved his family and for his quick wit and fantastic sense of humor. He loved spending time with his family more than anything. He was always incredibly proud of his daughters. He was kind to everyone he met and loved to tease, and make people smile, including family, friends and even perfect strangers.
He was known by many names: Ed, Edward, Edward Oat, Eddie, Husband, Daddy, Bubba, Uncle Ed, Coach Ed, Butchie, and Booty. He was a lifelong fan of the OU Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys. He also liked to cheer for TU as long as their winning did not negatively impact his Sooners.
Ed loved to play (and win) every kind of board game and card game and he loved to watch and play all kinds of sports. He especially loved to watch and cheer on his daughters and his nieces and nephews. Ed spent many seasons coaching his daughters and their friends in multiple sports. He was well known and loved for being a fun and encouraging coach.
He had a talent for writing poems and songs and could make up funny lyrics on a whim. Ed loved to dance and sing. If anyone needed a dance partner or a back up singer for karaoke, he was up for it. He loved all kinds of music from oldies to country to rock. He loved to learn about everything; sports, history, nature, food, animals, and cars. He enjoyed cooking and would make up his own recipes.
Ed attended the neighborhood church when he was growing up. Mostly to play sports and participate in their activities. He made the decision to follow Christ and was baptized in his adult years. He lived his faith with strong conviction. Ed served on the security team at BattleCreek church and enjoyed giving smiles and fist bumps to the preschoolers on Sundays.
This world was a better place because Ed was in it. His family loves and respects him and looks forward to the day when they will be reunited with him.
Ed is survived by his spouse, Kristin Lydens of Coweta, Oklahoma; his daughters Kamryn and Karsyn Lydens of Coweta, Oklahoma; his father Edward "Butch" Lydens Sr. of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his sister Angela (Tim) Kemp of Coweta, Oklahoma; nephews Chris Payton, Austin Kemp, and Logan Kemp of Coweta, Oklahoma; great nieces Lily Payton, Farajo Kemp, and Autumn Payton; and countless extended family and dear friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his mother Rita Lydens.
