Edna Mae Hughes, a lifelong resident of Okmulgee, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the age of 95. She was born July 15, 1916 to Daniel Jefferson and Ollie (Oaks) McGuire in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1934 and worked as a Director of Purchasing for Oklahoma State Tech for over 30 years. Also during WWII, she worked at the prisoners of war encampment until it was disbanded after the war in 1945. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma. She married Darrell Hughes in 1982 and they traveled all over the world, after they retired in 1981. Edna Mae has one sister, Leota McGuire, whom she loved dearly and numerous cousins. Edna Mae was a very gracious and caring lady and will be missed by many. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Okmulgee, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, member of the Okmulgee Garden Club and an avid bridge player. She and Darrell were very active in the Masonic Lodge. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Reverend Brian Matthews officiating under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee.
