Edith Nell Swift

Edith Swift left this world on December 5, 2020 and has been received into Heaven and the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus.

She was born Edith Nell McAden, the fourth child of six children, to Carl W. and Leska (Mansker) McAden in Ballinger, Texas on April 13, 1926. Edith was the last surviving sibling of the six children.

She married Ira Wayne Swift, in Ballinger, on February 1, 1947. Wayne preceded her in death on January 9, 1996.

Edith and Wayne lived and raised their family in Ballinger, Abilene, and until his death, Odessa, Texas. She was a homemaker, loving mother, assistant breadwinner, seamstress-tailor, and a remarkable cook. Her energy was tireless and her humor was contagious.

Edith loved Christ’s churches and the people who attended them. She was a faithful member of The Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord in Odessa. While living in Odessa, her favorite service and “labor of love” was cooking for Kindred Care, a meal outreach to the elderly.

After her husband’s death, Edith moved to Midland to be nearer her children. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a “Pink Lady” at Midland Memorial – West Campus.

From Midland, Edith moved to Sunrise Beach, Texas where she was a member of The Federated Church of Sunrise Beach and Kingsland Community Church in Kingsland, TX. While living in the Texas hill country, Edith was a member of the Sunrise Beach VFD Ladies Auxiliary and began her “Aprons of Love” ministry. Edith made over 250 aprons and joyously distributed each of them with an abundance of love as she exemplified God’s grace.

Her last move was to Tulsa, Ok. where her daughter’s family now resides. Edith went to her heavenly home from Tulsa. She will be interred at Old Runnels Cemetery, Ballinger, Texas on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11:00 am.

Edith is survived by her son and his wife, Charles and Joanna Swift of Junction, Texas and daughter and her husband Kandice and Paul Simmons of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Three grandchildren, Luke Swift (and wife, Shane), Ellen Hargrove, and Bethany Dean (and her husband Jason), eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She had amazing blue eyes that would wink occasionally at everyone she loved and she he loved everyone. We will miss our beloved Mother, Granny, and GiGi but rejoice in knowing she heard these words:

“Well done good and faithful servant: Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord!”
