Dwight Francis Clayton passed peacefully at his home, November 21, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 74. He was born on March 15, 1949, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Ulysses and Estelle (Plessy) Clayton. Dwight was unmarried and lived most of his life in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dwight’s life was marked by profound experiences that shaped him as a person. It was later that the Lord and His Amazing Grace shaped not only Dwight’s life but his destiny.
Dwight served his country with honor in the Navy, receiving an honorable discharge before embarking on a career that ranged from welding to becoming a skilled banquet chef. In late 2005, Dwight survived the catastrophic Hurricane Katrina, where he was missing for nearly three weeks. His survival stood as a testament to God’s grace and mercy that spared and extended his life. At 56 years old by God’s Amazing Grace, the Lord gave Dwight a new start and added 18 more years to his life. Dwight’s life was forever changed in the wake of this ordeal. He relocated to Tulsa, choosing to be closer to his family.
In his early 30s, Dwight placed his faith in Christ as his Savior, and began to follow Him. His journey was marked by challenges, yet he faced each obstacle with God’s grace and mercy. The last few years of his life was marked by devotion and a desire to learn more about the Lord and study the Bible. He delved into studying the Bible alongside his sister and nephew right up to the end, embracing faith as a cornerstone of his existence.
Defined by his reserved demeanor, Dwight was a private man, yet he had a deep love for his family. His mother, Estelle, instilled within him a set of enduring values that helped to shape his life. He honored her teachings from the Word of God, embodying respect, and humility throughout his life.
He is survived by his siblings Linda Fusilier, David Clayton, Patrice Orr and her husband, Ray Sr.; nephews, Leslie, Emery, Ray Jr., Reuben, and David Jr.; niece, Tyra and a host of relatives and friends. Reflections as I remember my brother Dwight..
Dwight,My Brother And My Friend
It’s been a year now since my beloved brother Dwight has gone to his eternal home, a place where there shall be no more separation and no more tears.
As I reflect back a year ago today there’s a bit of sadness mixed with joy. But through the sadness and missing him I’ve found comfort in knowing that he is rejoicing with our Lord and I will see him again. This is the blessed hope we have found in the Holy Scriptures and the hope we have in Christ.
Dwight’s desire was to be close to the Lord…always striving to know him more. That makes my heart glad today knowing the closeness he had to God then and until the end.
We walked together many miles and even till the end.
Not just as brother and sister but as friends.
