Douglas J. Flint, age 57, went to be with his savior on Friday, November 8, 2013 at his Jenks, Oklahoma residence.
Doug was born in Sweetwater, Texas on November 7, 1956 to J. A. Flint and Margaret Olive (Kidd) Flint. During his early childhood his family moved from Texas to a mountain top in the oilfields of northwestern New Mexico. In this area, he learned his trade. He bought his first oil property by age eighteen and shortly thereafter sold it for a profit. At age nineteen, along with his father and several partners, he drilled his first successful oil well. This was the start of several hundred oil and gas wells he would drill over the next 37 years. At age thirty he became president of a publicly traded oil company that ultimately was merged with a larger company.
Doug studied Petroleum Engineering Technology at Oklahoma State University (1974-1975). He successfully completed the Financial Planning and Control School for Oil and Gas Company Managers at the Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in 1990. He attended scores of energy seminars related to oil and gas law, negotiations, petroleum engineering, finance, oil and gas lease administration and geology. Before retiring, Doug was Vice President of Operations and a Director for Tide West Oil Company, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Doug was a proven leader with experience in every discipline of the oil and gas exploration and production business. He was recognized in 1989 as "Person of the Year" by Holdenville, Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce. That same year, the Holdenville, Oklahoma Business & Professional Woman chose him as "Boss of the Year". In 1991, Business Week chose Tide West Oil Company among the "100 Fastest Growing Companies in America" - Douglas Flint, President. Phil Smith, former CEO of Tide West Oil Company, states "Doug Flint is the best oil man I know. In 1995, the Oklahoma State Legislature recognized Douglas Flint as an "Outstanding Oklahoman". Also in 1995, United States Senator Don Nicholas commended Douglas Flint for his exemplary contribution to Oklahoma's oil and gas industry.
Some of Doug's hobbies, sports and interests have been tennis, softball, golf, scuba diving, piloting airplanes, racing motorcycles, enjoying good country music and Robert Duvall movies, hunting, fishing, NACAR, watching many sports (OSU and Dallas Cowboys football), Mexican and Italian food and barbeque.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.A. Flint.
Doug is survived by his son, Jacob Douglas Flint, his daughter, Leah Michelle Flint Harper and her husband, Mike Harper, his mother, Margaret Flint, his brother, Donald J. Flint and his wife, Kathy Flint, his sister, Mary Ann Flint Bryan, his sister, Betty Ellen Flint, his granddaughter, Natalie Claire Harper along with other family members and a host of friends and acquaintances.
Interment will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Holdenville Cemetery, Holdenville, Oklahoma near Doug’s parents’ grave site. Mr. Tracy Ellis will officiate.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, Doug has requested that contributions be made to Jenks Church of Christ, 2101 West 118th Street South, Jenks, OK 74037.
