Dorothy Jean Hansen

March 8, 1958 — June 25, 2016

Dorothy was born March 8, 1958, in Olympia, Washington. She was 58 yrs. Old. She lived in Junction City, Oregon most of her life and lots of years in Bristow, Oklahoma. She passed away on June 25, 2016, in Mounds, Oklahoma. She battled a lung disease for over a year.
She is preceded in death by both of her parents, Walter and Ruth Hansen, a brother, Joseph Hensen, and two sisters, Priscilla Bohall, and Patricia Ann Hansen. She has three brothers, Walter R. Hansen, Jr. from Tahoka, Texas, Jim Hensen from Rocky, Oklahoma, and Robert Hansen from Cottage Grove, Oregon. Dorothy has six sisters, Martha Hansen from Springfield, Oregon, Jennifer Rodgers from Mounds, Oklahoma, Susan Waring from Slick, Oklahoma, Sharon Hansen from Junction City, Oregon, Barbara Waring from Wichita, Kansas, and Beverly Billings from Eugene, Oregon.

Dorothy had various jobs over the years, at McDonald’s, Valley River Inn, and Dillon’s in Wichita, Kansas. She loved working and was a natural at customer service and very friendly.
What I can remember about Dorothy, she loved to ride her bike all over Eugene, Oregon, from Junction City and that was, at least, a sixty mile ride. She loved the ocean and going to the Oregon coast. Grandma and Dorothy lived by us, from 2001 to 2014, when they moved back to Wichita, Kansas. Dorothy often used to go on walks on the property where we lived and loved to be outside. Dorothy absolutely loved all kinds of lighthouses or any other decorations that had to do with the ocean. Dorothy lived in Mounds, Oklahoma, with her sister, Jennifer, who took good care of her the last year of her life.

She worked at McDonald’s in Bristow, Oklahoma for about two years and really enjoyed her job. Her favorite things were watching old Hallmark movies. Grandma used to joke with her about her watching the same shows over and over, and I asked her if she ever got tired of them, and she would give me a big smile. Her and grandma would watch, “The Price is Right” every day for years. They seldom missed that show. She watched a lot of “Little House on the Prairie” and “Hart to Hart”. She watched several seasons of the show when she stayed with us.

Dorothy’s favorite thing was playing several games of Scrabble daily. She got so good at it, she even would get more than 1or 2, seven letter words in the same game. She took good care of grandma for several years; getting her things, cleaning the house, and even doing some cooking and keeping grandma company. Dorothy was very protective of her. Grandma and Dorothy were great companions to each other. I don’t know what grandma would’ve done without Dorothy all those years. When grandma died, she lost her best friend and was never the same. Dorothy’s sister, Barbara commented, that her mom and Dorothy were like a married couple, how they couldn’t get along without each other, and they always did things together, and that was true.

Dorothy was also, fascinated with the royal family in England and the big fancy mansions. She would spend hours looking at fancy homes in magazines. She loved to drive around town and look at the fancy neighborhoods. Above all, Dorothy had a heart of gold and loved everybody. I remember taking her to the mall and dropping her off when I was busy, and all she had was a lunch, some water, and change for a cup of coffee. She was happy spending the day at the mall. She also, loved coffee and Starbucks.

Dorothy’s favorite restaurant was KFC. She was always wanted to go when she got paid. I would take her shopping in Tulsa or Sapulpa when they got paid. I will miss her smiling face and good heart. Dorothy had the kindest heart of anyone I know. She really loved everybody. She was not petty or vicious and always had something good to say about everyone, which is a rarity.
