Doris Pursell

March 14, 1944 — September 7, 2024

Doris Anne Pursell, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 7, 2024, and is now rejoicing in Heaven. Known for her selflessness and unwavering dedication to others, Doris leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and joyful memories.

Born in San Diego, CA, on March 14, 1944, to John L. Bryant and Millard (Millie) John Bryant, Doris's early years were spent in Hot Springs, AR, where her family relocated shortly after her birth. Growing up with her siblings, Jan and John, Doris flourished in her community, singing in her high school choir, excelling academically and showing a particular talent for mathematics. Her active involvement in the local United Methodist Church highlighted her commitment to her faith and community.

Doris pursued a degree in Mathematics at the University of Arkansas. Although she left college to marry her first husband, Jeryl Fullen, she continued to embody the same dedication and enthusiasm. Her daughter, Andrea Kaye Fullen, was born, marking the start of Doris's cherished role as a devoted mother.

Later, Doris married Darrell Pursell, and their son, Darrell Pursell Jr., was born. Doris balanced her career with raising her children, working for many years with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma in Tulsa.

A devoted fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Doris took great pleasure in watching games and calling the Hogs with fervor. She also spent many years volunteering at St. Francis Hospital, further showcasing her compassionate spirit. Later in life, Doris found joy and new friendships at Aberdeen Assisted Living Center, where her warm presence will be deeply missed.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, John L. Bryant and Millard John Bryant; her daughter, Andrea Kaye Sturken (Fullen); her brother, John L. Bryant Jr; and her brother in law, Bill Hearnsberger.

She is survived by her son Darrell Pursell Jr. and wife Stacy, son-in-law Brett Sturken, her six beloved grandchildren, Maddie, Morgan, Noah, Andrew, Zachary, and Sarah; sister Jan Hearnsberger, and Jan's daughters, Lara Dollar and Jennifer Stone and husband Paul and their daughter Jill; and sister-in-law, Paula Bryant.

Doris's family and friends will remember her for her boundless generosity, always putting other's needs ahead of her own, and the love of storytelling, and her deep affection for her grandchildren.
