Doris Bradley Dunn, a resident of Tulsa for the past 70 years, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2023, at the home of her daughter. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Richard (Dick) P. Dunn, by her parents, Fred Barry Bradley and Agnes Guilfoyle Bradley, and by her siblings, Fred R. Bradley, Mary Jane Bradley, and John William Bradley (Gail).
She is survived by her cherished daughter, Ginger Dunn Stone, her son-in law, Chad Stone, her sister Suzanne Bradley Benigno (Richard), and her brother Robert Bradley (Glenda). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris was born on October 11, 1928, at the home of her grandmother in Brooklyn, New York. Being born into a Coast Guard family, she lived in Cape May, New Jersey, and Biloxi, Mississippi, before moving to Algiers, Louisiana, where she attended Holy Name of Mary School and Martin Behrman High School. After a short stint at LSU, she decided to join the workforce. She had fond memories of spending the first nine years of her work life at D. H. Holmes Department Store located on Canal Street in New Orleans. She spoke often of riding the Algiers Ferry back and forth to work. She was subsequently employed by the federal government where her job at the Algiers Naval Station brought her into contact with a handsome young sailor named Richard P. Dunn, who was to become the love of her life. After receiving her engagement ring through the mail, they were married September 18, 1953.
Another milestone in her life was her employment with the US Army Corps of Engineers, where she worked from December 1969 until her retirement in September 1990. While working for the Corps, she cultivated and enjoyed friendships that continued after she left.
To simply summarize her 94 years of life, Doris loved her family, her home, her friends and her various hobbies. She enjoyed receiving and giving a little lagniappe and even though she is no longer with us and will be dearly missed, she would want us to know all is copacetic.
