Donald Robert Broadland

Donald Robert Broadland, 80, died on October 13, 2015, at Senior Suites Nursing Care Center in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born October 21,1934 in Dallas, Texas to Pehr Broadland and Helen Costley Broadland. He attended schools in Dallas, Grand Falls, and Austin, TX, and Oklahoma City, OK. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy and served on the submarine the USS Halfbeak. In 1954, he married Carole Ruth DeBaecke in Lansdowne, PA, and they were blessed with a son, Richard (Dick), and three daughters: Jan, Allison, and Sandy.
Don graduated from the University of Texas in 1958, and received a Master’s degree from Southern Methodist University in 1962. He began his career in banking and mortgage loans, then at age 30, moved his family to Tulsa, OK and went into business for himself as an independent commercial mortgage loan broker. As Tulsa Mortgage Company, he and a silent partner developed several shopping centers in Oklahoma and Kansas, and in 1983 he became the proud sole owner of Broadland Properties Inc. Don was an successful business man with a good heart and mentor to many.
Don enjoyed music, was accomplished on several brass instruments and played in several high school and college bands. He was a talented athlete; he played competitive basketball, tennis and especially enjoyed family volleyball games. He and Carole enjoyed traveling throughout much of the world together. He treasured his weekly volunteer time at the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma in Tulsa and served in the organization for over 22 years. Don was a good and honorable man, a loving, devoted husband and father who was an avid volunteer and advocate to anyone in need.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carole Broadland of Tulsa, and his children: Dick (Laurie) Broadland of Tulsa, Jan Olsen of Powell, Wyoming, Allison (HB) Warren of Palm City, FL, and Sandy (Craig) Hamer of Dallas, TX and his 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his favorite Aunt, Margaret Bremont, his brother, Pehr Lee, his son-in-law, Jay Anthony Olsen, and his grandson, Jett DeBaecke Olsen.
