Dolores Ernestine Willits was born May 27, 1924 in Kingston, OK to her parents, Russell and Ivy (Griffith) Thompson. She passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020.
Dolores was the middle child of nine children. She moved to Tulsa in 1942 when she was 18 and worked at Douglas Aircraft where she met Guy Neil Willits. They married on January 6, 1944 and were married for 67 years before his death in 2011.
Dolores “Erny” was an avid gardener and loved working in her garden. She spent many years creating and maintaining a beautiful garden at her home where friends, neighbors, and people passing by would often stop to admire and comment on her garden. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she and her husband, Neil were active in Asbury’s Cancer Support Group. Dolores was a 31-year survivor of ovarian cancer and was a member of Anna’s Belles, an ovarian cancer support group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil, her son, Larry, her grandsons, Taylor and Will, and seven of her siblings. She is survived by her son, Joe; three granddaughters, Kelly, Lisa, and Marisa; seven great grandchildren; her sister, Beverly Thompson Collins White; and many nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Memorial Park Cemetery.
