Dennis Dee Shields

Dennis Dee Shields passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the age of 70. He was born May 15, 1942 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Dennis graduated from Okmulgee High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was Governor of the National Electrical Contractors Association and owned Abrams Electric Company in Okmulgee for over 30 years. He was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Okmulgee. Dennis was an avid fan of racing, skydiving and OU football. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mae Clements; grandparents, Clyde and Maude Abrams and son, Paul Shields. Survivors include his son, Mark Shields and wife, Andrea of Okmulgee and his daughter, Dena Shields of Minneapolis, KS; sister, Sally Lay-McMillon of Okmulgee; seven grandchildren, Haley McGuire and husband, Cody, Seth Shields, Dominique Shields, Zachary Allison, Shiann Swearingen, Shayleigh Allison and Shelbie Shields; one great grandchild on the way; two nieces, Samantha Sadler of Okmulgee and Donna Maxwell and husband, Dan of Hoffman; nephew, Tommy Fulton and other relatives and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2012 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Okmulgee with Father Khiet Nguyen officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Pallbearers will be Roger Ballenger, Doug Penn, Thomas Chandler, Willie Henery, Bryan Hughes and Bob Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be George Ballenger, Billy Wadley, Leroy Ellis, Tony Volturo, Richard Huskey and Steve Riddle.
