Mekko David Joe Proctor, 65, of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
David was born on November 28, 1955 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Sam and Pauline (Starr) Proctor.
David graduated from Weleetka High School in 1974, and served in the United States Army for two years. He was employed at Muscogee (Creek) Nation for 38 years until his retirement in 2018.
David enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved his grandchildren and was one of their biggest fans. He was exceptionally proud of them and all their accomplishments. David was an avid OU sports fan and recorded every game.
David was the Mekko of Tvlahasse Wvkokaye Ceremonial Ground, a position he held for twenty-five years. During his time as Mekko, he provided knowledge and guidance to the ground members. Also, David was a member of the NAC intertribal chapter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one uncle, one aunt, and one sister.
David is survived by his wife, Joyce of the home; three daughters: Fallon Dennison of Okmulgee, Patty Starr of Morris, Meredith Birdcreek of Glenpool; one son: John David Ballard of Okmulgee; five sisters: Lydia Brown of Morris, Elizabeth Proctor of Okmulgee, Marcie Bell of Okmulgee, Samara Bell of Philadelphia, MS, Nicole Palmeter of Oklahoma City; five brothers: Michael Proctor of Henryetta, Reubun Proctor of Okmulgee, Marcus Proctor of Okmulgee, William Proctor of Okmulgee, and Sam Proctor Jr. of Philadelphia, MS; one aunt: Loretta Griffin of Okmulgee; ten grandchildren: Jaylie, Taylan, Kristin, Taryn, Jordyn, Kolton, Kenna, Kendale, Kendalyn, Kendan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Jason Harley, AJ Harley, Ethan Bell, Georgie Proctor, Daniel Roberts, Allen King, Alex Alvarez, Christopher Blackburn, Joey Selzer, Skip Blalock, and Greg Blalock.
Honorary Pallbearers are men of Tvlahasse Wvkokaye Ceremonial Ground.
Wake service and visitation will be Monday, May 3, 2021 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Schaudt's Funeral Service chapel. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Ottawa Tribal Building in Miami, Oklahoma.
Final resting place will be at the Peoria Tribal Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt Okmulgee Funeral Service.
