Leon David Henderson, affectionately known as Dave, passed away on April 11, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived. Born on July 7, 1942, in West Liberty, Oklahoma, to Hillurd and Lena Henderson, both of whom preceded him in death, Dave's journey was one marked by passion, adventure, devotion to his family and a deep love for the Lord.
Throughout his 81 years of life, Dave found his greatest joy in the company of his beloved wife of 50 years, Carole Ann (Metzger) Henderson, and cherished children, Kimberly Spies (Joey) and Jeffrey Henderson (Rebekah). His pride and joy extended to his grandchildren, Tylor David Holmes, Zachary Gleaton, Maddox Gleaton, Colin Gleaton, Lorelai Gleaton, and Judah Matthias David Henderson, whom he adored beyond measure. Dave is preceded in death by his siblings, Wayne, Donald, and Edwin, and is survived by his uncle, Bill King, and brothers, Auther and Thomas Henderson.
A graduate of Central High School, Dave's vibrant spirit and zest for life were evident in his many passions and pursuits. An avid flea market enthusiast, he delighted in scouring for treasures and connecting with fellow enthusiasts. Yet, it was on the golf course where Dave truly thrived, earning a reputation as a major golfer who frequented the greens multiple times a week. His skill and dedication were exemplified by his participation in the Senior US Open qualifier, a testament to his lifelong love affair with the sport.
Beyond golf, Dave's adventurous nature led him to explore various hobbies, from fishing in the tranquil waters of Colorado to racing motorcycles in thrilling motocross competitions. His infectious charisma and boundless energy endeared him to all who knew him, and he amassed countless friendships throughout his life, never failing to brighten the room with his humor and warmth.
In his early years, Dave dedicated himself to his work, first at Fender Guitar and later at Western Electric, where he spent 18 years of his career. Alongside his professional endeavors, he served his country with honor in the National Guard, embodying a sense of duty and patriotism that never wavered.
Dave's adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors extended to his passion for rock hounding, a hobby he pursued with gusto, amassing a collection of prized specimens over the years. Yet, amidst his many pursuits, Dave's greatest joy came from being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, his love and devotion shining brightly in every aspect of his life.
As family and friends gather to celebrate Dave's remarkable life, they will fondly remember him as a unique, awesome, and endlessly entertaining individual who left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may be gone, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, forever cherished and deeply missed. He will be laid to rest with fond memories and everlasting love.
