Coy Wayne Sanders passed away peacefully Saturday January 1, 2022. Coy was born in
Okmulgee, Oklahoma on November 19, 1930 and was a life-long resident of Okmulgee,
graduating from Okmulgee High School with the class of 1949. After graduation, Coy joined the Navy and served on board the USS St. Paul, always reminding us his ship fired the last rounds
from the sea during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in January, 1956. After his discharge, Coy began a 25 year career at American St. Gobain (ASG Industries) in Okmulgee.
Coy attended OSU Tech taking small engine repair and opened his own lawnmower repair shop out of his garage. After the glass plant shut-down Coy went to work for Dresser Rand in Okmulgee then in Broken Arrow retiring in 1996. Coy was a talker and could strike up a conversation with a total stranger. One could find Coy working in his garden where tomatoes, cucumbers and strawberries were plentiful. During the fall there was always a game to watch or
in some cases a trip to OU to root for the Sooners.
Coy was predeceased by his parents Matha and Alex, two brothers Victor Roe and Loyd, one sister Averta Benton and his loving wife, Evelyn. Survivors include son Michael Sanders and wife Cheryl, Tulsa, Ok; son Steven of the home and one daughter Kathy Thorman, Jenks, Ok; grandchildren Tammy Hadden and husband Bobby, Jeremy Thorman, Patrick Thorman and wife
Christy, Melissa Thorman, Michael Cromwell and wife Cristine, Bret Cromwell; great
grandchildren Allyson, Joshua, Ryan, Tyler Hadden; Sophia and Isaac Cromwell; David and his wife, Clayton, Christopher and his wife, Kelsie, and Cayce Thorman and great-great grandchildren; Lillian, Zoe and Dayton.
He also leaves behind his best friend of 74 years Mr. Billy Moody and wife Dorothy of California.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Schaudt Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Funeral service is Thursday at 1 PM at the First Baptist Church in Okmulgee with Pastor Dr. Dennis Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt's Okmulgee Funeral Service.
