Cordelia Elizabeth Clayton passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 when she found peace and relief from her battle with painful complications. She was born in Frankfort, Indiana February 12, 1945 to Clarence Edward Phillips, and Alice Alvira Cox. She later lived in Chicago, Illinois, Kearney, Nebraska, Dallas, Texas, and finally in Beggs, Oklahoma.
Betty, as she was known to most, was a strong and loving woman. Honest and straightforward. She said what she meant, and meant what she said.
She brought up four–sometimes unruly–kids, mostly on her own. She often put in long hours at demanding jobs, such as waitress, barmaid, and sales positions to provide for her family. Yet she still had strength left over to give tons of love. That love was sometimes on the tough side, but she did everything for the benefit of her family in the best ways she could.
Her love extended to her “critters,” as well. Dogs and cats were always a big part of her home. And like her children and grandchildren, they knew better than to talk back when she spoke to them.
Interests throughout her life included frequent novel reading, bingo, fishing, card games, puzzles, flea markets, and entertaining guests.
Betty is survived by her husband of over twenty-six years, Herbert (Cheech) Clayton; her four children: John R. Hanson (wife Rhonda), Susan A. Hanson, Scott A. Hanson, Judith E. Taylor (husband Todd), and three step-daughters, Candy C. Clayton, Tina M. Clayton, Shauna L. Clayton. She is also survived by three sisters, Susan McGuire, Valnetta Perkins, and Clara Hill; seventeen grandchildren, and an ongoing count of over thirty-six great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers.
Her family and a great many friends mourn her passing, and she will be dearly missed.
No public services are planned at this time.
Arrangements were entrusted to Schaudt’s Okmulgee Funeral Service & Cremation Care. Family and friends may view the obituary and send condolences to the family online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com
